Legendary Auto Racing - History of Daytona International Speedway

Since 1959, the Daytona International Speedway has been the epicenter of auto racing in America. Today, this legendary track is home to numerous championship races including the world famous Daytona 500 in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. It all started with the dream of NASCAR founder William France, who wanted to improve on the existing racetrack. The new track would feature a highly banked design, which permitted higher speeds and better viewing for the spectators. With engineering secrets shared by Ford and financial backing from General Motors, a Texas millionaire, and a second mortgage on his home - France was able to begin the construction of the 2.5-mile speedway.

Numerous renovations of the Daytona International Speedway have taken place since its initial opening, including the addition of lights and a major upgrade in 2013. With 101,00 permanent seats plus new concession stands, entrances, restrooms, and social spaces - the cutting-edge racetrack offers a state-of-the-art experience that you won't find anywhere else.
