Road Trip Essentials

Road trips are fun. But that cannot always be said about packing for them! There are tons of things to keep in mind when you pack for a road trip. The best is to plan and make a list of things that you will need during your trip. And if you are traveling with kids or pets, then you must be extra careful about what you pack. Take a look at some of the essentials that you must carry when going on a road trip.

  1. Hand Sanitizer: This is of utmost importance, especially in today's times. You won't know how clean the surfaces that you touch are. It is always good to take safety precautions when you are out and about. Always carry a hand sanitizer with you, whether in the car, in the hotel, or when you are outside.
  2. Mask: This is also very critical in today's uncertain times. Many places will also not allow you to enter if you don't have a mask. Don't forget to carry your mask for your own and other's safety.
  3. Sunglasses: Keep your eyes protected from the harsh sun at all times, whether you are in the car or out and about exploring the place
  4. Sunscreen: Your skin needs as much protection, if not more, from the sun as your eyes. Don't forget to carry a good sunscreen and slather adequate amounts from time to time
  5. Blanket and Travel Pillow: Always useful when you want to rest your eyes with a daytime nap or relax your tired neck. The blanket will also work as a picnic blanket. You can also use it to cozy up with your loved one should you be somewhere outdoors, and it gets cold.
  6. Reusable Water Bottle: It is important to stay hydrated when on the road, and carrying a reusable water bottle is good for the environment as well
  7. Reusable Shopping Bags: Again, an environment-friendly option, these come very handy when you are out exploring a place and want to shop.
  8. Medicines: While you will hope to stay in the best of health while on the road trip, one doesn't know how your body will cope with the travel. Always carry basic essential medicines for motion sickness, cold and fever, body aches, and so on. These can be very helpful whether you or your fellow travelers feel under the weather
  9. Flip Flops: The perfect shoes for casual walking, flip flops are very useful for walking around your hotel or on the beach.
  10. Walking Shoes: These are as important as your flip flops. While your flip flops will help you explore around the hotel and take short walks on the beach, a pair of sturdy walking shoes will be your best companion when you set out to explore the place on foot.
  11. Day Pack: Having a day pack during your road trips is a good idea for all the times you want to take spontaneous walks. The day pack will be useful to carry your water bottle, sunscreen, mobile, cash, and other things.
  12. Chargers and Battery Packs: A portable charger and battery pack are essential. You don't want a situation where your phone or camera battery dies out in the middle of the day and you have no way of charging it till you reach your hotel room.
  13. Car Games for the Kids: Kids can get cranky when they must sit in one place for long periods. And that is what will happen when you are on a road trip. Carry games that can keep your children occupied when on the road.
  14. First Aid Kit: This is recommended to have in your car when you set out on a road trip. It is very useful in case of injuries while on the road or at the hotel.
  15. Snacks: Snacks are often considered to be the most important travel essential for a perfect road trip. You don't know how long you will take to reach your destination. It depends on the traffic on the road, the number of breaks you take, and many other factors. Make sure you pack some snacks that you can munch on. This is especially important if you get hungry frequently or are traveling with kids. Pack energy bars, chocolates, crackers, and fruits.
  16. Roadside Emergency Kit: All cars should have a roadside emergency kit that contains battery boosters cables, two light sticks, reflective vest, tire pressure gauge, window breaker, and other things that will help you in case of a breakdown or other problems. Make sure you check your kit and ensure everything is there before leaving for the road trip.
  17. License, Registration, and Copy of Car Insurance Policy: Make sure you do not leave your home without these three documents. Hopefully, you will not need to use the insurance, but it is always best practice to keep these three documents with you when you set out on a road trip.
